Here are some simple steps on how to use Bondo:

  1. Start by cleaning and preparing your surface. Lightly sand the area with 120-grit sandpaper (for more tips on sandpaper grits, head to this sandpaper guide). Completely remove all dust.
  2. It will dry quickly so work in small batches. Bondo recommends a 3-inch circle of putty to 1/2″ of hardener. Mix it thoroughly for about 2 minutes.
  3. Working quickly, to prevent the Bondo from drying, use a putty knife to apply your Bondo to the area of need. It will be hardened within about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Once it is hardened, sand the area flush with 120-grit sandpaper.
  5. Ideally, you should only need one layer of Bondo. But if your surface isn’t as smooth as you’d like, follow the same steps again to add another coat!
