Steps to Make a Chapstick Holder Keychain
Follow these steps to make your own, adorable, chapstick holder keychain.
Step 1: Make a pattern with a piece of paper.
I found it was easiest to make a symmetrical shape if I started with a piece of paper, that way I could fold it in half and cut it.
You can get creative with the shape you pick. I did a leaf shape and a rectangle.
You’ll want to take the size of your keyring into consideration when cutting your pattern. I had about a one-inch width on my hook, so I made sure the portion of the pattern that would fold over the keyring was about the same size.
Step 2: Trace your pattern on your faux leather and cut it out.
Lightly trace a line around your pattern onto your faux leather. Use sharp scissors to cut along your line.
Step 3: Fold the faux leather through your keyring and glue it together.
Fold your faux leather through the hole of your keyring. Using E6000 glue, glue the leather together.
Depending on your pattern, you will need to leave the middle section without glue or glue a strap on to allow a space to hold your chapstick (see the examples below).
The glue needs 24 hours to fully cure, so once you have glued it, place a small weight on it (I used canned food) and set it aside.
*A little side note here: I purchased my faux leather from Walmart. I couldn’t decide on a color so I got 5″ of two different colors, and it ended up only being two dollars for the both! Plus, the 5″ was MORE than enough fabric to make several chapstick holders. The E6000 was $3 and the keychain hooks I got were $2. So the whole craft was only $7.
Step 4: Add your chapstick and enjoy!
This chapstick holder is a great addition to your car keyring, diaper bag, or backpack! I love having my chapstick easily accessible. Plus, it makes for an adorable keychain!
