Have you played Fast Sling Puck? Also known as Pucket. I recently saw it on Instagram and thought it looked like a ton of fun and easy to build. Turns out, it was definitely both! Fast sling puck is a blast! Perfect for all ages, simple and so fun. It is a great DIY tabletop game for any occasion.

Fast sling puck was started in 2005, but it became really popular in 2020 for reasons you can probably imagine. We were all desperate for any form of entertainment that year…

My husband and I literally laughed so hard we couldn’t finish some rounds the first time we played with our pucket board. I hope it brings the same joy to your family!

DIY Board Games: How to make a DIY Fast Sling Puck Board:

Step By Step Instructions for Making Your DIY Fast Sling Puck Board Game

Step 1: Make Your Cuts

Using your 1x2x8 – cut two 21.5″ pieces and two 13.5″ pieces.

Cut your hardboard into a 21.5 x 15 rectangle.

Cut your dowel to ten disks measuring 3/8″ each.

Cut a 2-inch notch into one of your 13.5″ boards. Measuring from the middle, make your notch two inches wide and roughly 1/3″ deep. I used my jigsaw for this cut. Watch the above youtube video for extra guidance on how to make this cut.

Step 2: Sand and Stain/Paint

Sand down all your wood, including pucks, with 220 grit (or a lower grit if your wood is in rough shape). Visit this post for the ultimate guide to sandpaper.

Remove all dust and either paint or stain your wood. If you use stain, seal the wood with polyurethane or polycrylic.

The texture of the hardboard is nice and smooth, so if you do decide to paint it, make sure you go over it with polycrylic to give it a smooth surface for your pucks to slide on. I just left mine plain, but I think it would be fun to add a little design to it.

Paint your 10 disks. I chose red and blue, but you can choose any color combination!

Step 3: Assemble Pucket Game Board

Start by attaching your four 1x2s together in the shape of a rectangle. Your longer pieces will have the outside edge/the small piece will sit in between the long pieces. I did this with my brad nailer and wood glue. You could also use pocket holes or regular screws. Just make sure as you join your pieces together, you keep them at a right angle, a square or right angle clamp may be helpful for this.

With wood glue and your brad nailer, attach your hardboard to the bottom of the rectangle you just assembled.

Measure and mark the middle point of your board. Use that mark to place your notched-out 13.5″ piece in the center of your board. Keeping it square, attach it with a brad nailer.

Step 4: Attach Bungee Cords

Measure and mark 2.75″ in from the short edge of your board. With that mark, drill a hole on each corner for the bungee cord. You want it to be as low as possible so your pucks don’t slide under the cord while playing. You want your drill bit to nearly hit the hardboard when drilling.

I threaded my cords through and tightly tied a knot on each side. I pulled my cords tight, but not completely taut. Cut off any excess bungee cord.
